In a remote village in the High Range of Kerala, Solomon lives with his father Geevarghese, the village sexton. Frightened of nearly everything around him, he is known as Kunjaadu, little lamb. Mary, Ittichan's daughter, has loved him since childhood, and her brothers, who oppose the match, beat him at every chance. Ittichan once loved Solomon's mother, also named Mary, and means Solomon to love his own daughter and then see her married to someone else. When a man who looks and acts like a feared criminal turns up at the house, Solomon, glad of fearless company, gets his family to accept him as Jose, a long-lost brother.
