Plot summary
Out of work and short of cash, Ramu learns from a legal notice that he has inherited five acres in Gandikota, in the Rayalaseema region, and boards a train to sell the property. His fellow passenger, the artist Aparna, known as Appu, introduces him to her father, Ramineedu, who invites him to the family mansion and offers to help with the sale. The household then learns that Ramu is the son of Raghava Rao, whose family fought a long and violent feud with theirs; Ramineedu's brother died in that feud, and Ramineedu and his sons Mallasuri and Baireddy vowed to kill any surviving male of Raghava Rao's line. Their tradition forbids shedding blood inside the house, so they wait for Ramu to step outside the front gates.
