Plot summary
As a child, Lucie Jurin escapes captivity and torture. At St. Mary's Orphanage she is haunted by visions and grows close to Anna Assaoui. Ten years later, Lucie goes alone to the Patterson family's home with a shotgun and kills them, believing they are behind her childhood abuse. Anna arrives to find the bodies and is horrified. She finds Mrs. Patterson still alive and tries to help her, but Lucie stabs the woman to death. While cleaning up, Anna finds a hidden panel in a closet that leads to a basement, where she frees a young girl named Sam. Before the three can get away, trucks carrying Eleanor, Fenton, and others arrive and give chase.

- Pascal Laugier, director of the 2008 original, said he had a bad contract and "didn't even get paid" for the 2015 remake, calling it the only regret of his career; he got through only 20 minutes of the film.
- Martyrs was shot in Los Angeles over only sixteen days in back-to-back night shoots; co-director Kevin Goetz said that seven days into filming, when they really needed something, they didn't get it.
- Daniel Stamm was set to direct the remake but dropped out over budget concerns, fearing "plateauing": making two films in the same budget bracket would make him "the guy for the $3 million movie."
- Early on Kristen Stewart was considered for a role in the remake, though Daniel Stamm later denied her presence in the film.
