Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Carroll Borland had toured in a stage version of Dracula with Bela Lugosi, but she answered the casting call for the younger vampire role without knowing he was involved and never mentioned their earlier work together.
SPOILER
Director Tod Browning kept the film's twist ending secret from the cast until shooting ended, believing their performances would suffer if they knew they were not playing real vampires.SPOILER
Browning considered but rejected an alternate ending in which Professor Zelen gets a telegram from the hired actors saying they missed their train, implying the vampires were real; Borland and Lugosi found the twist "absurd."- Makeup artist William J. Tuttle said the crew tried to avoid Tod Browning's productions because he worked them until they dropped from exhaustion, and grumbled "Mr. Chaney would have done it better" when they erred.
- Early reviews listed running times near 80 minutes, suggesting MGM cut Mark of the Vampire down to 60 minutes after early previews, which fed speculation about the deleted footage.
- Some sources claimed MGM cut hints of incest between Bela Lugosi's Count Mora and his daughter Luna, including a screenplay explanation that Mora was made a vampire for that crime and shot himself, shown by a blood spot on Lugosi's temple.
