Manjhi: The Mountain Man (2015) on Netflix

Plot summary

Dashrath Manjhi grows up in Gehlaur, a village near Gaya in Bihar, in a lower-caste community that the landlord Mukhiya routinely exploits. He runs away from home and finds work in the coal mines at Dhanbad, and when he returns he marries Phaguniya Devi, his childhood sweetheart, despite her father's objections. A rocky ridge walls Gehlaur off from Wazirganj; residents climb it or walk a 55-kilometer detour. Expecting their second child, Phaguniya makes the climb to bring him his lunch, slips on the loose gravel and falls. Dashrath carries her around the ridge to the hospital, where she dies and their newborn daughter survives. Grieving and angry at the mountain, he sells his livestock for a hammer, a chisel and crowbars and starts breaking the rock, while neighbors and his own father mock him.
