Plot summary
Belarus sits between two continents and two civilizations, and the documentary reaches its society through the arts. The country keeps a political system from Soviet times. Among those on screen are the artists Michail Gulin and Anton Krivula and the journalist Franak Viacorka, who speak about their public and private lives and about how far state power shapes cultural work and where the limits on expression lie. Out of these accounts come the questions the film pursues: can creativity survive a strict hierarchy, can anti-conformism hold against a Soviet-style regime, and can anyone stay independent where the state controls nearly all of the economy?
