Plot summary
Maamannan rose from party cadre to MLA of the Dalit community in Salem district. His son Athiveeran, called Veera, practices Adimurai and stopped speaking to his father after a casteist attack in his childhood. Rathnavelu, the party's district secretary for Salem, is the younger son of the late minister Sundaram and comes from a dominant community; he worked his way to the post without public office, and his aggressive manner keeps him at odds with Maamannan. Three months ahead of elections, Rathnavelu's men wreck a free coaching center that Veera's friends and Leela, the woman Veera loves, run, because it cuts into the business of a private center run by Rathnavelu's elder brother Shanmugavel. Veera and his friends strike back at Rathnavelu's own center, and Rathnavelu calls Maamannan and Veera in to settle the dispute.
