Farhana (2023) on Netflix

Plot summary

Farhana lives in Chennai with her husband Kareem, their three children and her father Ajeez. The small shoe shop the two men run does not earn enough, so Farhana takes a job at a bank's call center. When the youngest child, Nabha, is hospitalized, the added costs press harder, and Farhana notices that her friend and colleague Nithya draws incentives from another department. Farhana asks to be moved there too and finds a friendship chat line where women talk with male callers. The conversations disgust her and she considers quitting, but the family's need for money keeps her at the desk. Then an anonymous caller speaks to her pleasantly, she answers in the same spirit, and they fall into near-daily calls. He gives his name as Dhayalan.
