Plot summary
Ambika, her husband Shuvankar and their twelve-year-old daughter Shweta live in Kolkata, where Shuvankar keeps the truth of his family from his daughter. When his father dies in Chandrapur, he travels to the village to cremate him and says he means to sell the estate. His car burns on the drive back to Kolkata, and he dies. Ambika and Shweta go to Chandrapur to finish the sale. Shweta befriends Deepika, the caretaker's daughter, and wants to see the tree behind the house that villagers say a demon haunts. Girls in Chandrapur have been vanishing soon after their first period and returning unharmed, Deepika among them. Ambika stays to look into the disappearances, helped by Police Inspector Sarfaraz, who doubts the villagers and hunts for another reason.
