Plot summary
The story is drawn from real events in Italy in the late 1960s. Aldo Braibanti, a poet, a playwright and an anti-fascist, studies ants. Ettore Tagliaferri is his pupil and friend, barely of age, and the love the two share becomes a judicial affair. The case runs from 1964 to 1968, and Braibanti is accused of having mentally manipulated two lovers. Around it gathers a chorus of voices, from accusers and supporters to a public that is largely hypocritical. Ennio Scribani, a journalist, sets out to reconstruct the truth of what happened, moving between secrecy and desire, and meets suspicion and censorship. Maddalena Tagliaferri is Ettore's mother.
