Lock Up (1989) on Netflix

Plot summary

Frank Leone is a model prisoner at Norwood, a low-security prison, serving the end of a sentence for a minor crime. He leaves on furlough to fix cars, play football and see his girlfriend, Melissa Lowell. Guards wake him one night and move him to Gateway, a maximum-security prison under Warden Drumgoole. Drumgoole says the transfer is payback for an escape from his previous post, Treadmore, and for the reporter Leone told about Drumgoole's treatment of prisoners after Drumgoole refused him a furlough to visit his dying mentor, Galleti. That escape added five years to Leone's sentence and left a mark on Drumgoole's job record. At Gateway the guards mistreat Leone, and Chink Weber, an inmate who acts as Drumgoole's trustee, targets him. Leone befriends Dallas, Eclipse and First Base.
