Plot summary
Joe Gargan has just come out of prison and wants nothing to do with the rackets. His brother-in-law, who works at a tire plant, gets him hired there. At the plant a loan shark ring lends to workers and beats the ones who borrow. The owner and a union leader ask Joe to break the gang from the inside, but he turns them down; he wants to keep seeing the plant owner's secretary and live straight. When the sharks kill his brother-in-law, Joe agrees to help. He works his way into the gang's confidence while hiding the job from his sister and his girlfriend.
