Plot summary
In Rome in 1961, Richard Burton arrives to play Mark Antony in Cleopatra, opposite Elizabeth Taylor, the Hollywood star. His first attempts to compliment her come off as rude, and when he approaches her at a restaurant where she is dining, she walks out. Sybil, Richard's wife, grows suspicious of his intentions. Midway through the shoot Elizabeth changes her mind and asks him into her trailer, where she accuses him of wanting to seduce her. The attraction between them wins out, and their affair on set becomes national news. Elizabeth's husband Eddie Fisher and Richard's marriage to Sybil still stand in the way.

- On June 8, on her way to the set, Lohan's rented Porsche collided with the back of an 18-wheeler on the Pacific Coast Highway; she was released from UCLA Medical Center within two hours, refused to postpone filming and covered up her "bumps and bruises with make-up".
- Thompson revealed that the producers faced issues insuring Lohan, stemming from her various legal and medical issues, and said: "Lindsay Lohan may be the most insured actress that ever walked on a soundstage."
- On June 20 it emerged that the production was under investigation by the SAG-AFTRA and IATSE labor unions for overworking its actors and crew, after Lohan and two crew members received medical treatment for exhaustion and dehydration.
- The film contains 117 costume changes between Lohan and Bowler, 66 of them Lohan's, and Thompson had some of Taylor's most famous jewellery recreated for it, including the 33-carat Krupp Diamond.
