Plot summary
A coma-like condition known as uppgivenhetssyndrom, or resignation syndrome, has taken hold among hundreds of children in Sweden's refugee families. The families arrived after fleeing extreme trauma, and deportation hangs over them. In this state a child withdraws from the world, as if frozen, and can remain that way for months or even years. The illness is described as apparently stemming from the traumatic experiences the children had.
