Plot summary

Julie Reyes is riding home to Laurel, Illinois, on Christmas Eve when snowed-over tracks halt her train. She meets Stuart Bale, a pop star who assumes she is a fan when she hands back his phone, and he talks her into lunch at Waffle Town. Julie has been accepted to Columbia but her mother is sick, and Stuart spends the day with her, meeting Debbie and her grandfather. At the diner, waitress Dorrie juggles Addie, a best friend afraid her boyfriend will end things, and Kerry, a cheerleader who ignores her in front of the squad. Dorrie's co-worker Keon wants to throw a party at the restaurant, and Tobin hopes to tell Angie, whom everyone calls The Duke, how he feels, though he sees JP as competition.
