Plot summary

Interviews with people close to Martin Luther King Jr., some of them unseen before, sit alongside archival material from the last years of his life. He keeps up his work for civil rights and his opposition to the Vietnam War, and he refuses to step back from either as criticism comes at him from opposite ends of American politics. President Lyndon Johnson and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover count among those his stands upset, along with other opposition groups. Self-doubt travels with him as he comes to terms with the possibility of his own death. The campaigns of that stretch include the Chicago Freedom Movement and the James Meredith march.
