Plot summary
Sachie lives alone in Helsinki and runs a cafe of her own, serving Japanese-style food, rice balls above all. Customers are slow to appear. A young Finnish fan of anime becomes her first regular, drinking coffee there and eating free as the diner's first guest. Midori, a Japanese woman who has arrived in Finland with no fixed plans, meets Sachie in a bookstore and begins helping around the cafe. Masako, another Japanese woman traveling alone, loses her luggage to an airline and also ends up working in the diner. Three women from the neighborhood inspect the quiet diner daily. A brusque man shows Sachie how to make good coffee.

- Kamome Diner was shot inside a working Helsinki cafe, Kahvila Suomi on Pursimiehenkatu in the Punavuori district. Its original decor was taken out and replaced with Finnish designer furniture for the shoot, then put back afterwards.
