Plot summary
At Waterloo Station in London, Rikki, a Punjabi who lives in Southall, and Alvira Khan, a Pakistani from a wealthy Lahore family, are each waiting for a fiancé to arrive. To pass the time, they swap elaborate accounts of how they met their partners. Rikki says his fiancée is Anaida Raza, whom he met at the Hôtel Ritz in Paris the night Princess Diana died, and that fateful circumstances brought them together. Alvira describes Steve Singh, a lawyer who saved her when a Superman statue fell at Madame Tussauds, an incident that led to a lawsuit and then to romance. As they talk, the two develop a connection.

- Casting the film's fictional fiancés came down to refusals: Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra were both approached to play Anaida Raza and John Abraham was considered for Steve Singh, but all three declined. The parts went to Lara Dutta and Bobby Deol.
- Jhoom Barabar Jhoom shot a sequence at Stamford Bridge Stadium, but the footage did not make it into the released film and was later excluded from the final cut.
