Plot summary
Satyaprem, known as Sattu, is a failed law student in Ahmedabad who lives with his parents and a younger sister; his mother and sister bring home the household's earnings while he and his father Narayan have no work. He has loved Katha since he saw her dance at a Garba a year earlier, when she was in a relationship with Tapan. Sattu hears that she and Tapan have separated and that her parents are seeking a husband for her. At the Garba he and Narayan meet her father Harikishen, who runs a snack shop, and learn that Katha is unwell. Sattu goes to her house, finds her badly hurt and rushes her to a hospital. Some days later her family brings a marriage proposal to his home; he accepts gladly, and she agrees reluctantly.
