Plot summary
In City Six, a society rebuilt by Vopo Technologies after an event called The Reset, people scavenge old parts while the company keeps watch. Simon, a computer technician, learns that his best friend Eric has killed himself. At the funeral he notices Max, who later brings scavenged computer parts to the shop where Simon works and brushes off his attempts at conversation. Max comes back to ask for help opening an encrypted message Eric sent him, and is unhappy to learn that Simon has left the shop for a job at Vopo, a company Max does not trust. Simon opens the message with ease, and the two watch the cryptic video footage inside it. Max then sends Simon away so he can study the material alone.
