Plot summary
Vikram Sethi is a writer of Indian descent who lives in Britain and has come to Mumbai to launch his third book. He finds his wife Katherine, his publisher, dead in the hotel room they share, and the police treat him as a suspect. He drives off, the chase ends with his car overturned, and he makes his way injured into a nearby apartment. Maya, a homemaker, lives there with her lawyer husband Shekhar. When officers find Shekhar's body in that flat, Dev takes charge of a case with two killings and only two people who can say what happened, Vikram and Maya, and both are suspects. Dev listens as each gives an account of the night, and the two do not match.

- The theme song "Ittefaq Se" was recreated by Tanishk Bagchi from "Raat Baaki Baat Baaki" from Namak Halal (1982), composed by Bappi Lahiri and sung by Asha Bhosle, Shashi Kapoor and Lahiri; unlike most Bollywood musicals, the film has no songs, like the 1969 original.
