Plot summary
Air Force sergeant Joe Fitzpatrick weds Maggie Putnam, a nightclub showgirl, shortly before he is posted to a base in Spain. Back home, a one-of-a-kind red convertible he won in a raffle is delivered to her, and she writes to say she has a wonderful surprise to bring him. He takes that to mean she is expecting a child. At a party in Spain the guess is put to her, and she denies it without explaining the surprise. The car arrives too, and its looks make the couple stand out. Joe had been warned not to appear ostentatious, and the vehicle draws attention from Spanish officials and locals alike. His superiors ask him to send it home at their expense, but he fears how his wife, already unhappy with the Air Force in their lives, will react.
