Plot summary
Eduardo is a domineering man who rules over the modest shack where Lili, thirteen, lives with her mother in the Cuban countryside. When he goes missing, the household is left without him, and his absence ought to give Lili and her mother a new freedom. Lili is distraught instead, and the strength of her monstrous father's influence over the family becomes clear. A spiritualist has taught her a ritual for bringing back a person who has gone missing, and in her desperation at losing Eduardo she carries it out herself. The ritual goes wrong, and her life becomes a nightmare.
