Plot summary
An estimated half a million children in Malawi have lost a parent to AIDS, and the country counts more than a million orphans. Many of them live on the streets. The documentary goes into their lives and follows the efforts of Raising Malawi, a charitable organization, to improve conditions for them. It draws on the African philosophy of Ubuntu, which holds that a person is only a person through other people; in Malawi this idea is known as uMunthu. Alongside the hardship of extreme poverty, it records hope and the solutions people have found. A companion book of photographs taken during the visit was released, and its proceeds were to be donated to Raising Malawi.
