Plot summary
At thirteen, Jay Martin attends Columbus Hall, where a single scholarship to the Donald Peterson Academy is the prize he needs to study art. If he loses it, he will be sent to the Starkwell Military Academy his older brother Mike attends. His rival for the scholarship is his classmate and bully Ronny Van Dusen, whose father, Ward, is the headmaster. Ward takes away the notecards for Jay's presentation because they carry drawings of him as a wolf. Ronny then uses the presentation to win the contest, and Jay slips into the Van Dusen pool house to get it back. Camille, Eliza Van Dusen's show dog, spots him there and follows him home, and the Van Dusens believe she has been dognapped.
