Plot summary
A new apartment complex in Hong Kong stands on land that was once a squatter area, cleared by the government after a riot in which residents died. May and her husband Ray pay a great deal for a flat there and move in with their son Chi-lo. During the move, May and Chi-lo see a hideous creature, and Ray suggests leaving; the family stays. At a neighbor's birthday party, Chi-lo is taken. Something humanoid moves through the building's ventilation shafts and trash pipes. May and Ray report the kidnapping to the police and search the complex themselves while their neighbors refuse to help.
