Plot summary
Belinda Yost deals in animal and human oddities for International Medical Specimens Inc., and a water sanitation worker named Martin calls her about a fleshy organism he pulled from a treatment tank. She asks her receptionist, Elvina Shaw, to arrange a meeting with the corporate executive Napoleon Lazar, but Elvina instead calls Dr. Emilio Lorca, another buyer of oddities who pays a premium for an early look, and tells him what Yost intends. Yost pays Martin for the organism and signs a deal with Lazar. Lorca and his assistant Sheila plot against the deal, and Sheila ambushes Lazar on his way home, handcuffs him to a tree and carries the specimen to Lorca's castle, where he seals it in a jar beside three other oddities.
