Plot summary
Cab Calloway is putting together a jazz octet and wants to lead a big band. His girlfriend Minnie resents that he has hired Nettie, a female manager, to promote him and find his first break, and she suspects Nettie is winning his attention. Nettie gets the octet an audition at a new club, whose owner wants a better-known group for the opening. Cab promises he can recruit more players, and gets the job for the end of the week. Minnie goes to Boss Mason, a fix-it man who owns a rival club and keeps gunman Mo the Mouse at his side.
