Plot summary
Ghanshyam, called Shyam, comes to Mumbai from Gurgaon to take the bank job held by his late father, Sundarlal, who died in a fire at the bank. The post goes instead to Anuradha, whose father also died in that fire. Shyam owes Kharak Singh 35,000 rupees, and he lodges with Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, a garage owner behind on his debts, whose other tenant, Raju, has not paid rent in two years. A ransom call from the gangster Kabira reaches Baburao's telephone by mistake, meant for Devi Prasad, a wealthy fish merchant whose granddaughter Rinku has been kidnapped. Raju proposes that the three pose as the kidnappers and demand a larger sum.
