Plot summary

Charlie and Guddu are twins from Mumbai's slums. Charlie works at a racecourse for three brothers who fix races, hoping to become a bookmaker, and is closer to the youngest, Mikhail, than to Guddu, a social worker. A jockey cheats Charlie of his savings in a fixed race, and he follows the man to a city hotel, where he makes off with a van holding cocaine that two corrupt policemen meant to deliver to a drug lord. Guddu's lover Sweety, whose brother Sunil Shekhar Bhope is a politician, tells him she is pregnant and wants to marry. They wed that night; Bhope sends men who beat Guddu at the wedding, and Sweety fights them off and escapes with him.

  • During a late-night shoot for a scene in Pune, Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor fell off a motorcycle that skidded on mud; Kapoor was unhurt but Chopra suffered scratch marks and bruises.
  • Vishal Bhardwaj bought the original script of Kaminey for US$4,000 from Kenyan writer Cajetan Boy, three years after Boy sent him another draft of an idea first shown at a 2005 scriptwriting workshop held by Mira Nair.
