Plot summary
In 1964, the war has left the country in political turmoil, and serial killers are traveling the roads. Jim Goodwin, an animal handler, drives toward Chicago with his famous pet chimpanzee, Spanky, the chimp from his television act. At a gas station Jim picks up a hitchhiker, nineteen-year-old Bobby Falls, who says he was discharged from the Air Force. Over three days on Route 66 the two get to know each other, and Jim introduces Bobby to Spanky. Bobby grew up with an abusive father. He is also a killer, riding in the car of a man who has no idea.
