Plot summary
Hamsteri is a wildlife writer with almost no money. His home is a wooden cottage in the countryside, and his only friend is Minnie, a mouse. The village takes him for an oddity, and natural disasters occupy his mind. A family wins the lottery and moves in next door. Rurik, the father, has lost his will to live; Tellu is his wife, and they have children. Hamsteri has the chance to hoard the way he has always wanted, and what he gathers shifts the course of the family's lives. He lays in supplies for the winter he expects to be the hardest one yet.
