Plot summary
Sasha Li has not found work since fashion school, and she lives in Los Angeles on a one-million-dollar trust fund set up by her estranged father, Teddy Li, who owns a plush toy factory in China. On her birthday she learns that he has blocked her access to the money, hoping she will come and join the family firm. When she refuses, he stops the alimony payments to her mother, and Sasha gives in. In Shenzhen she reunites with Carol, her older half-sister, and meets the younger children her father had with one of his workers; his girlfriend Lulu is close to Sasha's own age. Sasha takes a place at the factory alongside Carol.
