Plot summary
Elliot Hopper supports three children and is trying to land a deal he hopes will bring a promotion and a company car. He forgot his daughter Diane's birthday, then promised her his car once the deal goes through on Thursday, and let her have it early. Hailing a taxi from work, he ends up with a driver who careens through traffic; the ride finishes in a river. Elliot comes away unseen by a police officer and walked through by a bus. At home, his children can make him out only in a pitch-dark room, and at times they cannot hear him. Paranormal researcher Sir Edith Moser brings him to London and explains that his soul is stuck until Thursday, so he works at finishing the deal and renewing his insurance while he can.
