Gerlach (2023) on Netflix

Plot summary

Gerlach van Beinum farms on the outskirts of Amsterdam and is among the last of the old-school crop growers there. He raises potatoes, beetroot, grain and strawberries on his land and sells what he harvests from his barn. His best friend Rinus pitches in around the fields and the farm. Modernity presses in on all sides: distribution centers, highways and multinational companies keep spreading, yet Gerlach works through the seasons at his own pace. Over several years the film stays with him in his fields. Between spells of work, the farmhouse becomes a gathering place for neighbors and friends, who share their dry humor and simple pleasures.
