Plot summary
Psychiatric medicines for children have been promoted for decades by doctors, government officials and journalists. Against that record, this account traces how the shift in Western practice took hold. Doctors, ethicists, journalists and academics are interviewed about the relationship between drug companies and the FDA, the agency that oversees them, and about whether commercial reasons rather than scientific ones have put millions of children on these medications. Families who followed their doctors' advice describe the consequences they faced and say they found nowhere to turn for help. Parents are asked to weigh the stated benefits of the drugs against the risks to children.
