Plot summary

An anthology of short documentaries draws on a book by the economist Steven D. Levitt and the journalist Stephen J. Dubner, who host it. Each segment uses economics to look at how people respond to incentives. One asks what a person's name may mean for social advancement. Another looks into match fixing in sumo wrestling, a sport whose fighters are expected to be honest. A third considers the drop in American urban crime during the 1990s. In Chicago Heights, Illinois, an experiment offers ninth graders cash prizes for better grades.
