Frank and Ollie (1995) on Netflix

Plot summary

Hired by Walt Disney Studios a couple of years before Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston stayed with the company until the late 1970s. The documentary follows them as they recall the studio's early features, among them Pinocchio and Fantasia, the wartime slump in business, and the years that followed. Periodically one of them acts out a scene he animated, then the scene itself is shown, demonstrating the part acting plays in the craft. Contemporary Disney animators and animation historians discuss the pair's influence, and their wives add recollections. Archival footage from the features runs through the film, along with Ollie's model railroad and the book on animation the two wrote together, and scenes of their daily life in La Cañada Flintridge, California.
