Plot summary
Divided into five sections, Empires, Banking, Terrorism, Resources and Progress, the documentary argues that the financial system, debt and the lobbying power of banks threaten Western civilization. It holds that the war on terror has served to create larger debts owed to banks rather than to eliminate militant organizations, and it makes the case for classical economics and the gold standard. Twenty-three thinkers from different disciplines contribute, among them economists, a former chief economist at the World Bank, a former trader and an ecological economist. Frustrated at the failure of their own fields, they break their silence. A companion book has been published, and the film holds out hope for a new economic paradigm and a more moral and just society.
