Plot summary
Word reaches the U.S. Cavalry that the son of an Apache chief intends to attack Fort Yuma. A column under Lt. Ben Keegan is sent out carrying ammunition and supplies for the post. Keegan has hated the Apache for years, and he chafes at having Sgt. Jonas, an Apache, as his chief scout. Riding with the soldiers is Melanie Crown, a missionary from the East who rejects prejudice and holds that people can live together in harmony. Also along is Jonas's sister, Francesca, and the attraction between her and Keegan is complicated by his views. The Apache plan is to approach the fort in stolen cavalry uniforms.
