Plot summary
John Buckner, a young FBI agent, is given the job of taking Huey Walker back to Spokane, Washington, to stand trial for disconnecting Spiro Agnew's train car. Spokane is the city where the act is said to have taken place. Huey has kept away from the law for twenty years; in his days as a radical in the sixties he was celebrated, and the charge dates from then, though he denies it. Buckner and his prisoner travel by train, two men who seem polar opposites. On the way they cross paths with Rand Hightower, a corrupt sheriff in a small town.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Colorado billionaire Philip Anschutz helped produce Flashback, and the film's Colorado railroad locations came courtesy of his own companies: he owned both the Denver & Rio Grande Western and Southern Pacific railroads used for filming.
- Bob Dylan recorded a version of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" for the Flashback soundtrack that has never appeared on any Dylan studio album or any of his official Bootleg Series box sets, making the film's soundtrack the only place to hear it.
