Plot summary
A visit to a South Korean laboratory that studies and displays meteorites set the inquiry in motion, prompted by the exotic character of the stones and the cultural weight they carry for societies around the world. From there the film travels to twelve locations on six continents, weighing the scientific, spiritual and cultural responses that meteorites, shooting stars and impact craters provoke. Researchers examine what arrives from space, while elsewhere the same material is bound up with faith and local tradition. Craters mark the ground where something fell, and the film asks what those arrivals have meant for how people picture other realms and their own place in the cosmos.
