Plot summary
Charlie, a college graduate, comes to New Bedford and looks up Tom, his elder half-brother. Tom earns his living as a scallop fisherman, and he reluctantly lets Charlie join the next trip on his boat, the Harmony. Charlie meets the crew, Nunes, Costa and Skeemo, and the voyage goes wrong when the boat explodes in rough seas and sinks. Ashore, Charlie meets Mabel, a small-time drug dealer, while his wealthy father, Gary Sykes, turns up to argue against the fishing life. A brawl with Tom's employers costs Tom his job, and Ray, his aging father, asks him to captain the Finestkind on a dredging run in his place.
