Plot summary
On his way home, Tepper picks up a wallet from the street and calls a number from it to reach the owner, Avery Phillips. The wallet also holds this week's $6 million winning lottery ticket. His friends Quigley, Bolan and Fishman arrive for the poker night they hold every week. They play freezeout with one condition: each buys a lottery ticket for the pot, and nobody checks the numbers until the cards are done. Tepper tells the group he intends to propose to Carla, his girlfriend, that same night. Avery turns up to telephone his wife, cannot reach her, and stays for darts, the ritual that comes before cards. Tepper looks for a way to send him off, then police seal the building for an investigation, and Fishman demands that Avery sit in.
