Plot summary
In upstate New York, the priest Father Damon kills a man at an island estate shaped like a castle; the man claims to be Lucifer and will return. In 1963 Andrew Williams is born, and his mother is left paralyzed in circumstances no one can explain. By 1980 Andrew is a high school senior, academically brilliant but withdrawn and awkward, and his classmates bully him. He feels pulled toward the estate where Father Damon killed the man, which is due to be demolished for a golf course. Tony, one of the classmates who torments him, tries to harass him in the gym shower and is overcome by strange powers, kissing him in front of their peers. Andrew is told he has won scholarships to several Ivy League colleges and does not care.

- After Frank LaLoggia showed distributor Avco Embassy three different cuts of Fear No Evil, he and production associate Donald P. Borchers reached a compromise that added numerous punk and new wave songs to the film's soundtrack.
- Director Frank LaLoggia shot Fear No Evil in his hometown of Rochester, New York, and at the historic Boldt Castle under the working title Mark of the Beast; filming was impeded more than once by weather, including snowfall during the filming of the climactic sequence.
- When Fear No Evil ran short after principal photography, an additional $250,000 was needed to finish its special effects; distributor Avco Embassy Pictures agreed to cover the post-production costs, and Peter Kuran's Visual Concept Engineering spent four months completing the final sequence.
