Plot summary
Joe Cross is an Australian in his early forties. He has lived with a rare autoimmune disorder for nine years, treats it with the steroid prednisone, and years of poor eating have left him obese at 310 pounds. Doctors and conventional medicines cannot help him over the long run, so he sets out across the United States filming a sixty-day fast of nothing but fresh fruit and vegetable juice. He asks Americans about food and health. At an Arizona truck stop he meets Phil Staples, a truck driver from Iowa with the same condition.
