Plot summary
Mycelium and its fruit, the mushroom, are the subject of a journey beneath the surface. Fungi made the soil that supports life 3.5 billion years ago, and mycelium links the roots of plants and trees around the globe in a network compared to an underground Internet. Through interviews, a mycologist, a professor of forest ecology, an author and a food naturalist describe the biology of the fungi kingdom, the environmental roles it fills and the ways people use it. Time-lapse photography and computer-generated imagery show fungal growth and decay. Fungi also feed and heal people and play a part in the regeneration of life on Earth.
