Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Faces (1968)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Lynn Carlin had no acting experience when Cassavetes cast her as Maria Forst; she was then working as Robert Altman's secretary, and Cassavetes cast her in Faces after Altman fired her. Her debut brought an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
- The cast of Faces allegedly worked for no pay, promised only profit participation, and Cassavetes self-financed the film with his wife Rowlands.
- Faces and Cassavetes' other films had a significant creative impact on Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, and Robert Altman.
- Faces first screened in Canada at 183 minutes before Cassavetes cut it to 130; a print of a longer 147-minute version was accidentally found by Ray Carney and deposited in the Library of Congress.
- James Benning's Faces (2010) is a found-footage remake of Cassavetes' film, exactly as long as the original but made entirely of silent, slowed-down close-ups shown for the same amount of screen time.
