Plot summary
Matthias, a successful employee enjoys his luxurious single life in Berlin until his mother dies. With her last wish to scatter her ashes in Cuba, she sends him on a journey into his past, to search for a true home.

- Cayo Ernesto Thaelmann, the island in the film, is real: during a state visit to East Germany in June 1972 Fidel Castro renamed the 300-metre-wide, 20-kilometre-long island in one act of friendship, and two months later a bust of Ernst Thälmann was unveiled there.
- Director Ronald Vietz wrote the characters during two of his own road trips to Cuba, and experiences of his lead actor Max Riemelt from a joint two-week trip beforehand, where Riemelt met the island and its people, also went into the screenplay.
