Plot summary
Karen is eight months pregnant when she meets Kiki, the surrogate who is carrying a child for Tina. Tina works as a conceptual artist, and she and Karen were rivals back in art school. It is Tina who brings the two women together, and two couples and the surrogate make up the group that gathers for one evening. The conversation takes up the reasons women give for wanting children, the awe and the fear that surround motherhood, and the choice some women make to do without it. Their own failings surface as well, funny at one moment and painful the next.
